My Wishlist for Palia

After a few days of extensive Palia sessions, I am in a much better position to judge the game and see what's missing and how the game can be improved. Constructive criticism is important, especially in the case of Palia since the game has insane potential.

Here is a list of the features I'd like to see being added or changed

  • Individual storage
Currently Palia has general storage. You can have 8 chests and 3 lockbox and every item you put in a chest can also be accessed by all the other chests. This makes it very cluttered especially when you store 93485983 furniture items you can't filter out (furniture doesn't take up any inventory slots). I want to dedicate a chest to furniture only, another chest for only crops, one chest for only fish/bugs so on and on. Current general storage system has categories but it isn't enough and there is just so much clutter to go through. If general storage system is here to stay then the next item on my wishlist is:

  • Search function in storage, option to filter out furniture
Again, finding the item you want can be very time consuming. If we can search the item we want, it'll be much easier to find it among all the clutter.
  • Auction house, economy, trading
Palia currently doesn't have any of these things. Economy is purely on you making money and buying stuff with it. We can't sell the furniture we make. If the game had some kind of an auction house, we could put our furniture or materials or cooking ingredients and sell those to other players. We also really need a trading system. Currently if you need a specific material, you can request it in the social menu but you can only do this 5 times per week and only in small amount. With trading we could easily be able to gift or trade items we don't need with players who need them.
  • Minimap
Currently we have a very useless day/night cycle indication instead of a minimap. We can already see the time, we don't need further UI clutter especially when we lack a basic feature such as a minimap.

  • Bulk crafting
Items such as repair kits, smoke bombs and arrows are crafted quite frequently. You get 20 item per craft and if you need to craft 100 arrows, you need to open the crafting menu, scroll all the way down to arrows, click to craft, then open the crafting menu, scroll all the way down to arrows, click to craft so on and on 5 times! This is very clunky and wastes a lot of time. There should be a slider so we could select how many times we want to craft the item.
  • Increased stacks
Right now item stacks are quite low. The game really doesn't want you to hoard. You can only stack 5 star quality fish and 5 normal quality fish. If you are fishing your inventory will fill up very quickly. Same goes for bug catching. I get that they want to make inventory slots feel very valuable but I still wouldn't mind a little more increase. Let's say 10 or 15. (We don't have to copy Stardew Valley here, 999 would be way too overkill for Palia)
  • Instanced resources
I already touched upon this on my previous post. In that post I said that some loot persists for all players even if they are looted but today I learned that it's only for a brief time. Once someone loots a forageable, you have around 10-20 or so seconds (I don't know exactly) to loot it, otherwise it will disappear. Some resources like flow infused trees and palium nodes just disappear for the entire server. Resources can be shared but not a lot of people want to report the location of them and wait for 5-10 mins for people to arrive and then collect it. If you are on a nice talkative server, it's very enjoyable to work together cause you can really feel the MMO aspect of the game but I also got into a lot of silent servers where people only did stuff solo and noone really reported anything and saw many people taking rare resources without reporting or waiting for others to arrive. This makes you lose out on valuable resources, especially if you don't have a lot of time to play.

  • Remove or increase the limit on soils
Palia currently has a limit on how many soils you can buy and it's 9. Each soil has 9 tillable slots on them so you have 81 spaces in total to plant and harvest. Some crops take up more than 1 space. For example the apple tree seed can only be planted on a 3x3 space, so one whole soil and blueberry bushes require 2x2. We have a lot of space to work with and you can even expand to multiple farm lands but why is this restriction even in the game? In mid to late game you feel very limited by what you can do on your farm which brings me to next item on my wishlist:
  • Remove or increase the gold cap
Gold cap is only 300k. Considering that the most expensive item is 100k and you need 300k to unlock the gazebo, this cap should either be removed or increased. 300k is too low for a game where everything is insanely expensive and there is so much to spend on.
  • Remove or increase the limit on crafters
You can increase your crafting license which allows you to place more crafters on your farm but the overall limit is only 30 (I'm currently at 21). There are a lot of different crafters and these all have long timers on them. Unlike in Stardew you can't just simply sleep in bed to fastforward time. All the timers on crafters are in real time. It takes around 45 minutes to turn tomatoes into tomato seeds, it takes around 30 minutes to turn them into jam. Every item has different timers, some ores can be made into bars in 3 minutes whereas it takes 4 hours for others. And one crafter only has one slot to process items. Naturally you feel the need to add multiple crafters. I currently have 8 seed makers and they aren't enough to keep up with the demand from my tomato harvests. Same with preserve jars to make jams or worm farms for bait and fertiliser. I have a huge surplus of tomatoes simply waiting their turn to be processed and keep growing in numbers.

General storage is very cluttered
  • Add tailoring as a skill
We have many resources such as leather, silk and fabric. So far we can only craft furniture with them. The game really lacks clothing items. Once you build a wardrobe, you can access every single clothing and change into them whenever you want. There is a tailor NPC but you can't buy clothes from him with in-game money. He only sells clothes for the premium store where you need to spend real life money. Adding a tailoring skill will allow us to craft our own clothes, let us have access to more clothes and also add a lot more playability to the game.
  • Indication to see if you've already given a gift to a villager
This is pretty self explanatory. Social panel allows you to see what a villager wants as a gift for that specific week but that's about it. If you gift the weekly requested item, social panel shows a green tick on that item but you still can't see whether you gifted someone anything in that particular day. You need to go and talk to them and notice that the gifting option is greyed out. Currently this is the only way to know. Noone has time to go and physically talk to every single NPC in the game to see if they gifted them anything that day.

Bulk crafting will help simplify crafting
  • Remove inconsistencies between in-game time and real time
You can give one gift per real life day however you can talk to every villager for friendship boost every single in-game day which is one hour in real time. So you can potentially talk to a villager a whopping 24 times per real life day to get friendship. I believe we should only be able to talk to villagers once every real day. Village weekly requests are for that week in real time and it resets on Monday. In Zeki's general store, you get a free lucky coin for shopping from him every week. I still don't know if this is real life week or in-game week but it feels like in-game week cause I got them more frequently than I'd have if it was real life week. (Edit, it's a week in game time). It all feels very confusing.
  • Villagers should have birthdays
Pretty self explanatory. Villagers right now don't have birthdays and the game doesn't have a calendar. But events are planned so a calendar will probably be added in the future. With that feature added to the game I'm hoping that the villagers will also get birthdays. Gifting on birthdays should give more friendship boost than gifting on a regular day.

For the time being this is all I've got on my mind. I didn't add events since they are already planned. I will update this post if I come up with more ideas.
  • Different weather
We really should have different weather in the game. I'd like to see some rain. In rainy days we won't have to water the crops too.
  • Allow us to sell furniture
It's hard to believe that we can't sell any of the furniture that we craft.

  • Allow us to interact with furniture
We can't sit in a chair/couch we crafted or lie in a bed. We should be able to interact with our furniture.
  • Fast travel improvements and mounts
Fast travel works in a way that requires you to walk to a stables and then click on the stables you want to fast travel to. All the fast travel locations are already available from the start without you having to discover them. We should be able to fast travel wherever we are on the map without having to run to a nearby stables and fast travel shouldn't be in a menu, it should be on the map. Especially when you ar new at the game and you don't know the names of the zones you will have no idea where you are fast travelling to since it's just text. We should be able to open the map and click on a fast travel point we want to travel to. Having mounts would also really help with navigation. Especially when a bunch of people are waiting for you to come to a flow tree or a palium node.
  • Raising animals
I'd like to be able to purchase and care for animals. Right now in the game you can only buy eggs, milk, and butter from the general store. We should be able to obtain these with the animals we raise ourselves. There could be new crafting stations to further process these to make own cheese, butter etc.
  • Make the launcher not shut down when you exit the game
When you exit the game the launcher completely shuts down, making you reopen the launcher and re-enter your password while server hopping.
  • Make the launcher remember our passwords
It's quite annoying having to enter our password every single time when we wanna open the game.
  • Chat shouldn't disappear only 3-4 seconds after someone types on it
When someone types something in chat, everything disappears only after 3-4 seconds. Current system makes it very difficult to follow directions from people who are reporting the locations of rare resources. You need to hit enter to open chat and then see the texts.
  • Half of the UI shouldn't disappear when fishing
When fishing half of the UI stays while the other half disappear. The UI should remain. This is important because we should be able to see what time it is while fishing since some fish only appear during specific hours.

I have more Ravenwood set furniture in the middle of the list but some discovered ones appeared at the end of the crafting menu.
  • Allow us to sort the order in our storage the way we want
General storage has alphabetical order. I quite dislike this. I want to order my items by type. For example I want my crops to stay together. I don't want a non-crop item appearing between my crops just cause of alphabetical order. There should be sorting options so if anyone wants alphabetical they can do so and if someone like me wants to sort by type, I should be able to.

The order of items get very complicated when it comes to the crafting menu. When you craft a furniture from a specific set, you discover a new furniture from that set. The newly discovered furniture are either on the bottom of the crafting menu or they appear where they should; in their own sets. So for example if you make a Ravenwood dresser and discover Ravenwood mirror, the mirror might appear the end of the crafting menu instead of appearing in its own set. Right now half of my Ravenwood furniture is in the middle of the crafting list, half of them are at the bottom.
  • Remove fertilizer stacking
There are many types of fertilizer in the game: weed prevention, water retaining, quality, harvest boost, growth boost. You can all add these fertilizers on the same crop which is fine but my problem is that you can add multiple fertilizers of the same type on the same crop. You can add like 50 harvest boost fertilizer on the very same crop. It all stacks. This is so weird to me. Just make it so that we can only add one fertilizer from each type per crop.
  • More customisation, have a separate tab for shoes, more colours
Currently shoes are tied to trousers/skirts. Shoes should have their own category. Clothes also seriously lack more colour options. Most of the presently available colours are quite ugly too. We need tons of new colour options.
  • Allow us to cancel a process and destroy planted crops to free up soil
Some processes such as making a gold bar can take up to 4 hours. Most processes take 40 minutes to an hour, some take 2 minutes, some take 7 minutes. In the case of longer processes, I'd like to be able to cancel it and process another item. Just today I wanted to cancel some of my ongoing pickled tomato processes to make apple jams instead but I had to wait for the pickled tomatoes to finish first.

Crop layout is very important in Palia, every crop has their unique stats. Some crops provide water retention to nearby crops, some provide weed prevention, some provide growth boost. There is even a whole website dedicated to garden planning. Some crops can take a long time to finish harvest, for example the apple tree or the blueberry bush. Apple tree takes 12 ingame days to provide the first harvest and it can be harvested 5 times. Blueberry bush takes 9 ingame days to provide first harvest and can be harvested 4 times. Crops that can be harvested multiple times don't provide harvest every single day, instead it's every other day. So ıf you planted something incorrectly, you will need to wait for a lot of days in the case of multiple harvest crops like tomatoes, blueberries and apples since we can't destroy what we planted.
  • Allow us to move the position of the shipping bin
I have no idea why we can't.
